Sarah Knop
Hello, I’m Sarah.
I founded CenterStage from a deeply personal place—one rooted in both the transformative power of the performing arts and the memory of what it felt like to stand at the threshold of a dream, unsure if I was brave enough to step through.
As a child, I was shy. Quiet. The kind of kid who felt everything deeply but struggled to find a voice for it. That changed when I began dancing professionally at fourteen years old and when I discovered acting as a teenager. In my family, I was known as the “artistic one.” But even so, when I sat in my senior year of high school, reading college audition requirements like “prepare two contrasting monologues” and “bring printed accompaniment for your song,” I felt a wave of doubt. I had been the lead in two school productions. I had trained for years. And still, I hesitated.
That uncertainty didn’t come from a lack of passion. It came from not knowing what the judges were truly looking for, or how to shine without losing my authenticity.
Now, after more than a decade of working as a drama and dance coach, and having directed and choreographed over forty shows, I hear those same questions from aspiring performers around the world. I created CenterStage to make sure that no talented, dedicated person ever lets a demanding admissions requirement—or their own fears—dim their joy.
My foundation as an educator is both academic and deeply practical. I hold a BA in Media Acting from Hochschule Mittweida, an MA in Dramaturgy from Birkbeck, University of London, and a PGCE from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. These programmes equipped me not only with the craft of performance but with the pedagogical knowledge to help others find their own path—thoughtfully, rigorously, and with compassion.
My approach is holistic. I believe performing arts education is about far more than technical skill. It is about nurturing the whole person: the artist, the collaborator, the quiet student finding their voice, and the bold one learning to listen. Through musical theatre, drama, and dance, I integrate vocal training, movement exploration, and dramatic technique into dynamic learning experiences that engage you cognitively, physically, and emotionally.
But more than that, I meet you where you are. I recognise that every student brings a unique constellation of strengths, interests, and learning styles. My role is not to mold you into a single idea of a performer, but to place you—metaphorically and literally—at the centre of the creative process. Through differentiated instruction, scaffolded learning, and shared leadership, I create inclusive environments where you feel safe enough to take creative risks and strong enough to grow from them.
Whether your goal is to prepare for a college audition, find poise on stage or at work, or simply rediscover the joy of expressing yourself fully, my promise is this: I will help you build not only performance skills, but transferable, life-changing competencies like communication, collaboration, resilience, and self-expression.
I was once that shy kid who almost didn’t take the leap. Now, after over ten years of coaching, more than forty productions, and a lifelong commitment to learning, I have built a vocation around helping others shine. I would be honoured to help you, too.
Let’s begin.
